ABOUT US (Punisyn)
Punisyn Pharmaceuticals
was started in 2004 as a division of Rimonest Ltd.
in order to capitalize on research achieved on the estrogenic
and anticancer activities of the pomegranate fruit.
In November 2006, Punisyn Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
was incorporated as an independent company in the State
of Israel (see
Israeli corporate registration certificate).
The core technology is a synergistic combination of different
fractions of the pomegranate fruit and tree possessing potent
and multifunctional pharmacological activity. A complex
drug for the treatment and / orf cancer, especially of the
prostate and / or breast, Punixin, is in
development.
Punisyn Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. is presently
involved in cooperative research projects worldwide (see
list of present research cooperations).
The research is being coordinated by two
principal consulting scientists.
Ephraim
P. Lansky, M.D. is a clinically trained herbalist,
classical homeopath and acupuncturist, who received his
M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
in 1982. In 1999, he co-founded Rimonest Ltd. within the
Technion
Entrepreneurial Incubator Company (TEIC), a
subsidiary of the Technion---Israel
Institute of Technology, and has served in
both the scientific investigations and management of Rimonest
for the past 8 years. In addition to his ongoing work with
Rimonest, Dr. Lansky is cooperating with Professor Robert
A. Newman and other top scientists worldwide in developing
the world's first organically
certified, complex
botanical drug, from pomegranate. Dr. Lansky's
expertise includes post-harvest treatment of pomegranate
components, fermentation, distillation and synergistic formulation
of complex drugs. See
a list of Dr Lansky's publications on the pomegranate.
Robert
A. Newman, Ph.D. is Professor of Cancer Pharmacology
at the M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center, of the University of
Texas, U.S.A. Professor Newman also serves as director of
M.D. Anderson's Pharmaceutical
Development Center, which he also co-founded.
Professor Newman's laboratory is presently hard at work
in chemically characterizing (fingerprinting) the complex
pomegranate mixture which comprises the prototype of Punixin.
Professor Newman's expertise includes the elaboration of
the eicosanoid profile (a detailed assessment of inflammatory
status) of cells, using a novel method that he developed.
He is presently employing this method to evaluate the effect
of the Punixin formulation on the inflammatory profile of
specific human cancer cell lines. See a partial list of
Professor Newman's publications.
